South Africa lost one of their top female cyclists last week Wednesday. It was a big shock for the cycling comunity here and it effected everyone since we are all out on the roads everyday and Carla was one of the most promising riders in the country at the moment. She got a top 10 at the last world champs and that was a first for South Africa and this year she had signed for HTC!
Carla was doing time trail training with two other top cyclists when her bike computer fell off, she turned around to go and pick it up and her coach in the back up vehicle had seen this and stoped the car, as they do this a truck comes pass and he did not have a chance to avoid what happened. When the coach reached the hospital with her she was no longer alive.
Rest in peace Carla!!! You will be missed in the peleton!!
Next week will see the South African Championships in Port Elisabeth and there will be a memorial service for Carla there.
To all cyclists on the roads: please be carefull and ride safely!
